Calp is home to a rich archaeological and historical heritage dating back to the Bronze Age, which can be seen in the sites of Cocentari and the eastern slopes of Ifach.
The settlement in the Iberian Period is once again located in Ifach and in the Tossal de la Empedrola, where the remains of a watchtower from the 4th century B.C. survive.
During the Roman period, the population was located in the coastal enclave of Baños de la Reina, and samples of this culture can also be found in the area of Enginent.
The Castell del Mascarat, built during the Islamic period -11th and 12th centuries- and also used after the Christian conquest, and the Pobla de Ifach are clear examples of medieval settlement.
The Modern Age is represented by the Torreó de la Peça -first half of the 16th century-, a defensive bastion that constitutes the only remains of the town’s former walled enclosure, and by the Casa Nova -late 17th-early 18th century-, a fortified farmhouse with a superb machicolation over its entrance door and embrasures that facilitated its defence.
The Cocó and Rafol riu raus, typical rural buildings of the Marina Alta region used for raisin production, and the Molí del Morelló are representative examples of 19th century constructions
