The Calp Fishermen's Guild, through the Mare de Déu del Carme Festival Committee and in collaboration with the Town Hall, has prepared a full program of events to celebrate the traditional festivities in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, patron saint of sailors.
The festivities will begin on Thursday, July 16, coinciding with the patron saint's feast day. The morning events will be concentrated in the old town with a parade and the celebration, at 12 noon, of Mass in the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, with music provided by the Ifach Choir. Afterwards, a mascletà (firecracker display) will be set off in the Plaza Mayor (Main Square).
In the evening, starting at 8 p.m., the activities will move to the fishing port with the traditional floral offering to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, followed by the maritime procession and a tribute to those lost at sea. The procession will feature the El Carellot xirimiter group, the La Xarlotà band, and the Calp-Ifach Musical Union.
At the end of the procession, the Calp Rowing Club will lay two wreaths in the open sea on behalf of the Fishermen's Guild and the Royal Nautical Club of Calpe, in memory of deceased sailors. The day will culminate with a fireworks display and a performance by the La Trampa orchestra at the fishing port, starting at 11:00 p.m.
On Friday, July 17, the program continues with Music Night. From 9:00 p.m., the fishing port will host performances by various DJs and the Lidia Murr Band.
On Saturday the 18th, the day will begin with a pilota a llargues match, organized by the Calp Pilota Club on García Ortiz Street. At 2 p.m., the traditional communal lunch will be held, bringing together the entire fishing community. In the evening, starting at 8 p.m., the port will once again be filled with music, featuring performances by various DJs and the band SWAG.
The festivities will conclude on Sunday with a day dedicated to family leisure and gastronomy. The morning will begin with water castles and the traditional greasy pole climbing contests in the port. Starting at noon, the popular caldero (fish stew) competition will take place, featuring dishes made exclusively with local fish from Calp. The competition will be enlivened by the El Carellot shawm group and will award various prizes.
In the afternoon, from 7 p.m., the musical performances will continue, and at 9 p.m., the World Cup final will be broadcast on a giant screen.
