The Calp Town Hall, through its Department of Culture, will launch a new free theatrical tour of the old town on April 24th, entitled “Cavanilles in Calp.” This cultural initiative will allow residents and visitors to explore the town's past in an educational, engaging, and participatory way.
The tour will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Casa de Cultura (Cultural Center). The route will be guided by the figure of the botanist and naturalist Antonio José Cavanilles, who documented the Baños de la Reina (Queen's Baths) archaeological site in 1792. Cavanilles will serve as a narrative thread to delve into various episodes of local history.
During the tour, participants will encounter several figures linked to Calp's past, such as Admiral Róger de Llúria, the Mudéjar leader Al-Azraq, Napoleonic soldiers, Barbary pirates, and the beloved Senyoreta Amparito. In this way, the route combines theater, historical outreach, and the promotion of local heritage, transforming the streets of the old town into a vibrant stage.
Participation is free, but places are limited, so prior registration through the Tourist Office is required. Those interested can register by emailing turismo@ajcalp.es or calling 965 836 920 or 965 838 532.
Mayor Ana Sala emphasized that with this project, "the City Council continues to support a cultural program that combines entertainment and education, allowing us to rediscover the historical identity of our municipality through innovative and accessible formats."
