The Calp Town Council, through its Department of Culture and Heritage, will put out to tender the comprehensive restoration of the Gastón Castelló mosaic after receiving the first technical report on the state of conservation of this emblematic work, created in 1966 and located in Plaça del Mosquit.

The restorer of historical and artistic heritage, Carolina Mai, presented the conclusions of the damage study carried out on the mosaic a few days ago in the Saló Blau of the Casa de Cultura (Cultural Center). Also participating in the event were the Councilor for Culture and Heritage, Guillermo Sendra, and the municipal archaeologist, Alicia Luján. During the session, the pathologies detected in the work and the technical measures that will need to be applied for its consolidation and restoration were explained.

The report represents a milestone in the conservation of this artistic piece, as it is the first time in its nearly 60-year history that a thorough and specialized analysis of its condition has been carried out. The diagnosis reveals the urgent need to consolidate the tesserae, halt the progressive deterioration of the mosaic, and guarantee its long-term preservation.

Following the study's findings, the Calp City Council will launch the bidding process for the necessary restoration work, an intervention that will recover one of the municipality's most representative heritage elements and preserve the artistic legacy of Gastón Castelló.
