The Calp City Council, through its Department of Sports, has begun renovating the four outdoor sports courts at the municipal sports complex and improving safety at the Esplai Parc 8-a-side football pitch, with a combined investment of 133,022 euros. Of this total, 74,767 euros is allocated to the refurbishment of the courts, and 58,255 euros to the fencing and protective netting for the 8-a-side football pitch.
The renovation covers the Esplai Parc basketball court, the futsal court, the multi-purpose court, and the "Red Court" (Pista Roja). The work includes repairing cracks, fissures, and damaged areas with concrete; cleaning, preparing, and resurfacing the courts with an outdoor epoxy coating; and repainting the playing lines.
The court markings will be adapted for various sports: basketball, futsal, volleyball, mini-basketball, and pickleball. Notably, the multi-purpose court will now accommodate pickleball and volleyball, while the Red Court will feature a 3x3 playing area alongside the basketball court.
At the Esplai Parc 8-a-side football pitch, approximately 230 linear meters of perimeter fencing and padded protective barriers will be installed to reduce the risk of impact-related injuries. Additionally, ball-stop netting will be placed at the north and south ends of the pitch.
These initiatives are part of a broader set of facility improvements. The lighting for the 8-a-side football pitch has already been upgraded, though two trees that obstruct proper illumination in certain parts of the playing field are yet to be removed. Furthermore, a spectator seating area will be added to the Red Court, and the goals on the futsal court, as well as the basketball hoops on the Red Court, will be replaced. Through these projects, the Calp City Council aims to improve the condition and durability of the surfaces, enhance the safety and functionality of the facilities, and provide better conditions for training, matches, and sports activities for local clubs and other users in the municipality.
