The Mayoress of Calpe, Ana Sala, and the councillors for Tourism Planning, Mireia Ripoll, and International Promotion, Marco Bittner, attended yesterday the inauguration of the new Easy Jet base at Alicante-Elche airport. With their presence, the municipal authorities wanted to highlight the importance of the Alicante base of this company for Calpe in order to increase European and national connections.

The new Easy Jet base starts up with three Airbus 320 aircraft, which will operate from the aerodrome; twelve new air routes and an increase of one and a half million seats offered for this high season and one hundred direct jobs. These new routes include Birmingham, Southhampton, Zurich, Nantes, Prague, Newcastle, Lille, Belfast, Lyon and Nice, in addition to the twelve that have been opened over the years. The flight offer is not only focused on the UK, but also includes connections to other European cities. It is estimated that the different tourist itineraries will attract almost 21 million people to the province throughout the year.

The Calpe Tourism Department stresses that the municipality has a large number of direct transport methods available from the airport to Calpe, such as Beniconnect and ALSA, companies that have highlighted their commitment to the Town Hall. Thus, since last February, Calpe has had a direct connection to the airport, a service launched by the General Directorate of Transport and Logistics, with different schedules and frequencies depending on the time of year.

Ana Sala emphasised the importance of this new base for Calpe as one of the leading destinations in the province of Alicante, and reiterated her welcome to all tourists to the town. "The Easy Jet base in Alicante is essential for Calpe as we are one of the reference destinations in the province of Alicante, we receive thousands of tourists from different European countries every year," said the Mayorees.
